Akbar said a Jirga of the Political Administration with the tribal elders of the Jana Kora and Hasan Khail tribe, held in the office of District Co-ordination officer Peshawar, discussed the modalities for the early and safe recovery of the kidnapped levies personnel.
He said the administration had asked the tribal elders to play their due role in the safe recovery of the kidnapped personnel of the Levies. The elders assured the Political Administration of the Frontier Region Peshawar that they would try their best to hold talks with the militants for this purpose. The tribal elders sought three days for holding negotiations with militants, which was accepted by Assistant Political Agent Naveed Akbar.
"The Jirga members will respond to the administration within three days, till Monday next, about developments in this regard," said Akbar. When asked about contact from Taliban, he replied that they had yet to receive any demand from Taliban for exchange of the kidnapped Levies personnel.
It was reported that militants had attacked three different check posts of the Levies forces last Thursday night, and caused huge damage. With the support of sophisticated weapons and rockets, the militants had stormed the area of Jana Kora and Hassan Khail tribe which resulted in the killing of two Levies personnel and injuring one other.
Besides, the militants had also taken away 22 personnel. The militants also looted weapons and other valuables from these check posts. In the wake of the deteriorating law and order situation, Assistant Political Agent Naveed Akbar summoned a Jirga of tribal elders to chalk out a plan for the safe recovery of the Levies personnel. The tribal Jirga has been given a three-day deadline for the safe recovery of Levies personnel. It is pertinent to mention here that the Taliban militants had carried out several attacks on security forces check posts in the frontier region Peshawar, but their bids were foiled.
